Before anything, assign a precise and definite place for the food and water bowls for you cat and also for the cat litter. Keep a steady schedule for mealtime and for the daily brushing, which should be introduced to your kitten at an early age.
In the first days, let your kitten get accustomed to his new home and find himself his favorite places to sleep. A basket is not necessary and the chances that he will not like it are
strong. Do not worry if in the beginning your kitten does not seem to be interested in his
food, this is normal since your pet has to get accustomed to his new environment.
Be cautious in the beginning with your new kitten. Let the kitten explore and advise your children also. He will need a time of peace, because if you pet him too much in the beginning, his adaptation period will take longer. Your hands, that he does not know yet, might be intimidating to him. When your kitten respondes when you call him, always reward him with a hug in order for him to understand that you are proud of him. Persian cats really appreciate gentleness and they adore lying in beds and more than that, on their master while they sleep. If you decide to gim him that privilege, it has to be a though decision. A persian is susceptible, changes in the way we treat him might offend him. He will learn quickly the areas that are forbidden to him. A quick, strong and firm "NO" is generally enough. Do the same if your kitten scratches his claws somewhere that you do not want and continue to do so until he understands that it is forbidden. Persian cats are very careful observers and they can easily imitate what we ask him on one condition: be really nice to him. An angry voice or mad comments will not work with him.
In the beginning do not leave him alone too much and help him to discover his new home and all of the family members. Do not forget to close the doors and windows until your cat has become accustomed to your house and feels at home. Too many kittens have had terrible accidents trying to run after a butterfly or a bird that they saw in the sky.
House, travel or pension?
In general, cats do not like to travel or changes of habit. He does not get really familiar with his masters needs to travel. But on the other hand, he does not like to be left alone especially for entire days at a time. To have someone go to your house every day to give food, change the water and the cat litter is not really suggested for persian cats. The ideal situation would be to find a host to stay in your house while you are gone. It is best that it be someone that your cat is familiar with. Special pension homes for animals is not suggested either since your cat could come back with parasites or viral infections. You can also find some good trainers that offer these services. In this case, you can be assured that your cat will be treated with respect. If one of the previous suggestions is not possible, bring your cat with you but prepare him psychologically. A good trick is to leave the travelling cage open in order to let your cat go in it by himself and play. That way he will get used to it and will not have an impression that he is a victim of an unfair discipline when he will be put inside.
